Partner, Solo, Group or Line, Dance Is For Staying Young
Why Dance?
So Many Choices, So Little Time?
If you are like me and detest treadmills, weights, sweaty gyms, come see why people have no problem dancing 2-3 hours daily. Every medical organization recommends walking as a simple way to improve your health. Well, think of dancing as “fast walking” only indoors, to great music and with friends. While we encourage any form of activity to stay young, doctors are seeing a rapid increase in injuries from falls and muscle strains in many popular sports such as pickleball, tennis, etc. Fortunately, social dancing works against the biggest problems of aging.

Can I Really Learn To Dance from A Website?
The answer is a resounding YES! Nowadays you can learn to fly a plane, but the level of instruction, and many other factors will determine your success. Fortunately you’ve come to the right place.
Before we get started let’s explain a little more in detail what are the best ways to learn, what are the easiest dances to learn, what are the different styles out there, and what are some common misconceptions that make learning more difficult. Also terminology helps in understanding how to learn. One thing I hear from non dancers- “I don’t want to be a professional.” I could say the same thing about learning to drive a car. I want to get around but I don’t want to compete at The Indy 500. You want to be competent enough to not get in accidents, not be terrified every time you are behind the wheel. Dancing is the same. We want to enjoy dancing to music we like and not fear stepping all over our partner. We also don’t want to sit out all night because nobody wants to dance with us. Sports provide great analogies- you don’t want to be the person nobody wants in their golf foursome or as a doubles partner. Two things I never want you to ever say: Guys: “I don’t know any fancy steps- I just go to the music” and Ladies: “I just Need a Strong man to lead me.” Trust me- those are the ones most dancers avoid.
We’ll start at the top and work down.
- Competitive: dancing with a pro or amateur partner in dance events. Available in every style of dance
- Social: dancing for fun whether at a studio, bar, or club with everyone or your own partner

How can you possibly choose?
I tell everyone unless you want to explore something new or different, start with the dances that fit the music you most like to dance to. In the social Ballroom style, you’ll use Foxtrot, East Coast Swing, Cha Cha and Rumba the most. In the Latin clubs: Salsa & Bachata. West Coast Swing is currently the Swiss Army Knife of social dancing. You can use it to Rock, Blues, Jazz, Contemporary Pop, Motown, Soul, Funk, Country, and even Hip Hop.
